The Maine China Network is a diverse community from across the globe drawn together to explore and build a mutually beneficial and enduring network between those of us in Maine and those of us in and from China. Our group is comprised of Chinese and American business representatives, entrepreneurs, teachers, professors and students. Combining our business and cultural experiences, along with our first-hand knowledge of China and the United States (especially of Maine), we strive to build foundations for understanding and valuable relationships between China and our home state of Maine. The Maine China Network has much to offer. We hold a monthly forum to discuss events, trends, plans for action, and ways of getting involved. We foster and sponsor cultural events, celebrating the main Chinese festivals, so that our members, our neighbors, and the many visiting Chinese students can enjoy the sights, sounds, music, and food that China has to share. We maintain a database of people and organizations relevant to those seeking goods and services in Asia and/or New England. Chinese visitors and students in our area find it particularly helpful. We keep our members informed through periodic email broadcasts. We work with and link to other Maine and Chinese affiliated groups. We provide various translation/interpretation services, including but not limited to Mandarin-English, Cantonese-English, French-English, German-English, in various forms such as in-person, phone, video or written. 我们的服务：维护跟中国有关或有兴趣的各界人士的数据库；为您指路，帮您跟有经验的人士建立联系；每月会议,分享信息；促进与在缅因、美国和中国的各方组织之间的合作; 提供各种形式的多种语言翻译服务，包括普通话 – 英语，广东话 – 英语，法语 – 英语，德语 – 英语，形式可以是面对面口译，电话或视频翻译，和笔译等。

How the Organization Came About The Maine China Network’s creation began in the Fall of 2010 as an offshoot of an annual Chinese educational conference at Husson University. Several of the participants of that conference wanted to expand from not only educational exchanges with China and other Asian countries but also into more business and cultural development exchanges. These community leaders met for the first time in the small conference room at the Dyke Center for Business at Husson University. The fledgling Maine China Network organization developed bylaws and incorporated the following year and began developing Chinese cultural events to showcase to all Mainers and the world community that there was a vibrant and growing Asian community in Central Maine. In 2010, the Bangor City Council formalized a Sister City relationship with the Nangang District of Harbin, China, the first of its kind in the State of Maine. In 2013 a permanent monument in granite and stainless steel was erected prominently on Bangor’s Waterfront. The following year a similar monument was transported to Harbin and presented to Chinese leadership there in a formal and well publicized ceremony. Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival | 中秋节

From September 19th through 20th, 2014, the Maine China Network held a Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival at the Creative Arts Center, Bangor and the Indian Trail Park, Brewer. The event featured a Lion and Dragon Dances, kite flying demonstrations by Glenn Davison (org and link?), paper kite making and flying, Chinese calligraphy, paper crafts (cutting, origami), Mooncake preparation, lunch and snacks. What are Mooncakes? Mooncakes (yuebing,月饼) are Chinese pastries traditionally eaten during the Mid-Autumn Festival (Zhongqiujie). Learn more about Mooncakes.
